Arts & Sciences

Arts & Sciences

Arts & Sciences within the SCA are defined as any of the crafts, skills, or technologies practiced in the time periods and cultures depicted by our members. We practice the many arts, sciences, and pastimes of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, both to broaden our own knowledge and to enhance the atmosphere at Society events.

What to Expect

Arts & Sciences: Bring your current projects or come learn from others! Regular activities include leatherworking, scribal scroll work, embroidery, knitting, music, and community arts.

Martial Arts & Practices: Space is available for both Armored Combat and Rapier practice. Because these activities take place outdoors, martial arts practices can sometimes vary based on extreme heat or inclement weather. Be sure to check our local updates for real-time announcements on when practices will occur. If you are looking to authorize or try fighting for the first time, loaner gear is frequently available to help get you started.

Fellowship: Come enjoy great conversation, share local tidings, and hang out with an incredible crowd of friends from near and far.

What to Bring

  • Your favorite crafting supplies, a project in progress, or your fighting kit.
  • Outside food is welcome (please check venue policies regarding outside drinks).
  • Any questions you have if you’re a newcomer—we love to share what we do!

Be sure to check our Middlegate Calendar for exact dates and locations, and keep an eye out for weekly weather-related practice announcements!
